Tim Stauffer was originally slated to be the Padres Opening Day starter. Then, just before Opening Day, he went on the disabled list with elbow issues. Edinson Volquez has done a pretty decent job filling in for him, but it'll still be good to have him back in the rotation. Injuries to (potential ace?) Cory Luebke and Dustin Moseley have things looking pretty thin for our starting five.
Tonight was his first start of the season, in the Nationals' ballpark. Despite giving up Bryce Harper's first home run, he still had a decent start, going five innings, giving up three earned runs to go along with five K's. Good enough to get a win, since he left with a lead, but it was short lived, as Miles Mikolas, a rookie reliever picks up the loss after giving up two runs in a third of an inning.
The Pad Squad was able to put some runs on the board, though, losing 8-5. Good to see Chase Headley pick up his 17th RBI, and doubles by Headley, Yonder Alonso, and Jesus Guzman. Nick Hundley also gunned down Ian Desmond trying to steal 2nd.
Good to have you back, Tim.
