The Padres made a few personnel changes today. They put Jason Bartlett on the DL and released Orlando Hudson. Both were signed before the 2011 season, and both have struggled since wearing the SD on their caps. From a fan standpoint, I'm glad that the team decided to cut him loose, since I don't think that he gives us the best chance to win. However, I'm sorry that it didn't work out for O-Dog in San Diego. He made some decisions and said some things that didn't necessarily endear him to the fans, but I don't think he was a bad guy. It seemed like he got hot for a few games, and I was hoping that he was going to turn it around, but it was not to be. He leaves having played 35 games this season and hitting .211 with a homer and 11 RBIs.
Replacing Hudson and Bartlett on the active roster is Everth Cabrera, a long-time Padre prospect, and Alexi Amarista, a middle infielder/outfielder that San Diego picked up from the Angels in the Ernesto Frieri deal a few weeks back.
Best of luck to all players involved. Go Padres!
