Endless (Non) Cycle

The Padres continue to do well against dominating pitchers.  After being the first team to beat Roy Halladay twice in the same season since 2009 (!), they beat the Stephen Strasburg-led Nationals today, by a score of 6-1.

Anthony Bass was stellar today, as the only run allowed came on a solo homer by Bryce Harper, his second of the series, as well as the season.  Jon Baker, taking over catching duties for Nick Hundley for the day, had three hits and three RBIs, and James Darnell had a solo home run of his own.

The big news, however, was that Will Venable finished the game going 4 for 5, falling a home run short of the cycle.  The Padres and Marlins are the only teams in MLB without a player who has hit for the cycle.  Former Padre Scott Hairston hit for the cycle earlier this year for the New York Mets.  For details on other things that the Padres haven't been able to do (no-hitter, World Series championship, etc.) go to wikipedia and look up San Diego sports curse.

I'm sure it'll happen sometime... right?  Either way, still glad they could avoid the sweep in Washington, hopefully they can ride the momentum as they head back home against the other southern California teams, the Dodgers and Angels.
